Hi Guys, here's a quick look at some things that are inspiring me lately:
First up, New York: New York is one of my all time favourite cities. I love the chaotic mix of styles, neighbourhoods and of course the street art / graffiti. New York is home to some of the best bloggers and every blogger finds themselves spending at least one jam packed day there. There are loads of coffee shops (an essential of course) and spending the day people watching is sure to inspire anyone. I love relaxing on the rooftops (the best for city skyline shots if I do say so myself) and hitting the museums. With regard to the fashion, well New York Fashion week is probably my favourite out of all the Fashion Weeks, but that's just me.
Menswear: As a minimalist, menswear has always been an inspiration for me. It's generally simpler than the outfits marketed for women and so much cheaper (come fall you'll see this AWESOME holed sweater with a hood I got in the HM men's section. It's amazingly comfy and the sleeves are actually long enough for my arms.) Some of my favourite influences are those of male street style bloggers. They were the first to layer shirts, play with hem lengths, normalize the beanie and promote sneaker culture. Menswear can always be depended on for the freshest casual looks and the sharpest business style.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen: Or as I like to call them, the Queens of Minimalism, the smokey eye and the colour black. I've loved the Olsen sisters' style since their awkward early 2000's stages and I'm loving it even more as the years go on. As far as individual style goes I love Ashley's crisp and cool aesthetic. It's the perfect mix of garçon grunge and preppy chic. Mary Kate is a boho goddess and can make a poncho and an 8 hour plane ride look good. That sort of style cred carries on into their brands as well. Elizabeth and James is my contemporary daydream while The Row is my dream work/lifestyle wish list. (Oversized cardigans anyone?) If you haven't guessed, the Olsen's are among my top style muses and if I don't stop now, you'll end up reading an essay on my favourite Olsen fashion moments.
Magazines: I always look to the monthly editions of In Style, Style Watch, Elle and Fashion for a glimpse of the colours and styles that are making the rounds that season. Magazines are always good for a quick outfit inspiration when you need it and to get a glimpse of the new it bag or accessory.
HM Home: If you've been following along on the 'Gram you'd know I'm loving everything that the HM Home collection has been putting out. My interior design dream is a home done in greys, pale blue, gold, silver, olive green, black and white (basically my colour palette). I'm all about the geometrics, stripes and clean lines and the HM collection is the embodiment of that. If you look at the mood board above, you'll see the cotton striped duvets and the thick knotted throws, I love layers and the pillows they have are super soft and have the coolest images and patterns. (I saw two pillows out today that said "Enjoy Today" and "Great things will come"). I'm loving the cable knits and the mix of stone, pottery and metal. The whole collection has an air of zen and I'm loving the scented candles in little glasses and tins. The peppermint and green tea and bergamot candles smell amazing. If you haven't already checked this out, it's a must-see! HM Home .
That's all for now guys. Have a great weekend!
